December 2016

This month in Reading Workshop we…
  • Began the unit, “Story Elements”
  • Discussed definitions of setting, plot, problem, solution, and characters
  • Identified the story elements in various books
  • Talked about how the characters and setting can change throughout a story
This month in Writing Workshop we…
  • Continued the unit, “Persuasion in Multiple Formats”
  • Read example book reviews
  • Wrote our own book reviews over stories we have read and included all 3 parts (retell, opinion, recommendation)
  • Beginning to record each other reading a self-written book review
This month in Math we…
  • Began the unit, “Data”
  • Practiced reading charts and graphs
  • Took surveys and recorded data in various ways
  • Created our own surveys, represented data, and created graphs to show the results
This month in Science we…
  • Began the unit, “Balance and Motion”
  • Discussed definitions:  balance, stable, counterweights
  • Practiced balancing different objects with and without counterweights
  • Created two different types of mobiles

*Your child will randomly bring home math fact flashcards.  Please encourage them to practice them and bring them back the next day.  Your child is working towards a goal they set regarding their math facts!  Thanks!
Reminders:
Please be sure your child is bringing their Panther Pride take home folder to and from school every day!

Please have your child read their reading bag books each night at home!

Please be sure to read a lot over Winter Break!!!!!!!!!!
